VIDEO: Digitizing Active Transport

For Transport and Climate Change Week in May 2022, Trufi’s Leonardo Gutierrez presented on how Trufi Association is digitizing active transport – walking, cycling, and other non-motorized modes of transportation.

Gutierrez was part of a panel on discussing “Active Mobility Digitalization on the Way” in Latin America (full panel video available here from Changing Transport).

Active Transport Applications: More Than Mapping Bike Routes and Sidewalks

In the video, Gutierrez discusses how the technology behind Trufi’s apps for public transport has been adapted for our active transport applications such as stadtnavi, and Not Without My Bike.

“We want there to be more technology at that level, especially to get from point A to point B in a multimodal way,” Gutierrez said. “What is important for a cyclist? They are different from the things that are more important for a vehicle driver.”

The streets are important, he said, including the exclusive lanes for bikes and shared lanes where are bicycles allowed. But other data is important for the active transport user, that isn’t typically found in a journey planner for motor vehicle users, and public transport. “Indicating hills is very important, along with bicycle parking spaces, and bike share locations.”

As with all Trufi solutions, we map all of these details with the OpenStreetMap platform.
