Public transport is a lifeline — but only if it’s visible, equitable, and efficient. In Oaxaca, community members are rewriting the map, literally. They’re turning informal transit networks into powerful tools for equitable mobility.

Students, activists, and everyday riders are documenting routes, logging stops, and digitizing data into OpenStreetMap. Their mission? To expose gaps, challenge car-centric planning, and demand transport that serves everyone.
The Ground Truth Matters
Without data, informal systems stay marginalized. Our Oaxaca project with partners HOTOSM and Codeando México, proves another way is possible.
By pairing grassroots knowledge with tools like OSMTracker, communities are building the case for inclusive mobility from the ground up.
Maps are just the start. When transport data is open and community-owned, it can be analyzed for and acted upon. Oaxaca isn’t waiting for solutions. It’s creating them.
